The Hybrid Flax Pavilion receives Award at the German Design Award 2025

The Hybrid Flax Pavilion of the Cluster of Excellence “Integrative Computational Design and Construction for Architecture” (IntCDC) combines slender cross laminated timber with robotically wound flax fibre bodies for the first time. The result is a novel, resource-saving load-bearing system made from regional, bio-based building materials with a special local connection.

Jury statement:
The innovative combination of cross-laminated timber with robotically wound flax fibres creates a resource-saving load-bearing system that uses regional, bio-based materials. The pavilion integrates harmoniously into its surroundings and reflects the historical use of flax, while offering a flowing space with high design standards.
